Couch to 5K kicks off again across the Inishowen Peninsula week commencing March 27th 2017 This ten week programme has been a huge success for the past 4 years, not only does it get the peninsula moving, but it also leads to new friendships, the strengthening of communities and ignites or renews a love of fitness for many. Firmly community-led, participants will meet at training sessions in five locations: Buncrana, Carndonagh, Malin, Clonmany and Moville. These are held on different times and days to ensure flexibility for all taking part. Participants will have one goal in mind – to walk, jog or run the 5k on Friday, June 2nd. They will be mentored and supported by their coaches from Inishowen AC and The Get Fit Gym with Charlie Byrne, as well as availing of top tips on nutrition and injury prevention. Previous participants Catriona and Mary started the programme in order to “get fit and lose weight.” They said that while they are well on their way to achieving that goal, they have also found there’s a “real community aspect” to their training sessions. This is Adventure racing in an amazing adventure landscape, you’ll be buzzing and challenged at your own fitness level as you choose from either 62K Extreme, 41K Sprint or 22K Mini courses. Immerse yourself in a captivating wilderness as you run, bike kayak and hike in Wild Atlantic Way territory and summit the majestic Sliabh Sneacht mountain in Inishowen, Donegal. Hosted by Extreme North at the Sliabh Sneacht Centre which is surrounded by an amazing natural Adventure landscape as Adventurers embrace the rugged beauty and captivating wilderness while being challenged to their limits on any of the 3 course distances. 62K Extreme Course will test the experienced adventurer with finishing times ranging from 3:45 to 6:00hrs.Starting with a tough 12.5k run followed by a 2k kayak, 22k challenging on/off road cycle, 7k hike to Sliabh Sneacht summit and back before a final 18.5k cycle with tired legs and body takes you back to the Finish Line. 41K Sprint course, a decent challenge with recorded finishing times of 2:45 to 4:30hrs. Inishowen Sea Symposium is a 2-day event in April for all levels of sea kayakers. It will be based in Moville, Inishowen, Co Donegal. The Sea Symposium is open to all abilities and has been attracting participants from all over Ireland, the UK and Europe for a dynamic programme of training, demonstrations, tours and leisure events focused around the Inishowen coastline. Most participants reside in Moville over the course of the Symposium. We will travel to key sites along the Wild Atlantic Way including Malin Head, Ned’s Point, Culdaff and Inishtrahull – Ireland’s most northerly island. Added events include ‘Catch it, Cook it’ culinary demonstrations, Seaweed Foraging, Bushcraft Survival, Sea Survival, Incident Management at sea, Navigation and cultural entertainment in Moville’s Trawlerman Bar.
