Ben Holmes lives in Culdaff and works mainly in oil, inspired by the land and seascape of Inishowen since moving to Donegal five years ago. His work reflects Inishowen’s ever changing environment which provides a sense of peace through its rural setting, whilst the wild Atlantic coastline offers an edgy unpredictability. Ben has exhibited in Ireland and the UK and his work is displayed in a number of venues around Inishowen, including the Butterbean restaurant in Carndonagh and Inish Fusion in Moville and Glen House in Clonmany. Ogham is the earliest form of writing in Ireland, it dates back to the 4th century and was used for some 500 years. The alphabet is made of a number of strokes along or across a line. The word is written from the bottom to the top. You can find this form of writing on standing stones all over Ireland.
