The Inishowen Tourism team took advantage of the sunshine and beautiful Peninsula location at Malin Head to promote themselves as a destination not to miss for all Star Wars fans on May 4th, the official Star Wars celebration day for fans worldwide. The culmination of the fantastic weather and the official celebration day offset the idea to get out the office and show the prospective visitor here what is on offer during their stay and what better time to do this amid the wave of enthusiasm that has followed Inishowen Tourism’s representative Denise Henry’s successful marketing trip to the official Star Wars celebration in Orlando USA.
Inishowen Tourism have forged strong links with other providers of the Star Wars experience here in Ireland since the Orlando event and one of the local groups assisted with our photo shoot. Members of the Emerald Garrison (Irelands Star Wars costuming group) kindly offered to attend in full costume as a TIE Pilot and Reserve TIE Pilot on May 4th.
Meeting up and visiting the various locations for a photo shoot with local photographer Brendan Diver sparked interest from visitors at the locations. One group of visitors were so delighted to see us. One lady visiting from Buffalo, New York stated
this has made my day, my trip to Malin Head- so excited to have a photo on location here with the Emerald Garrison guys and you all
Enthusiasts made a special journey to Malin Head on this day wearing their Star Wars t-shirts expressing interest in searching for the various film locations associated with the up and coming release of The Last Jedi Episode VIII in December 2017.
Inishowen Tourism make every effort to create valuable experiences for the visitor to read and review both online and offline, and the Star Wars May 4th day out was an impromptu event to combine great scenic imagery whilst facilitating networking opportunities with local trade members and visitors in the local area. Heidi Woods Tourism Development Officer with the team stated
it is a win win situation when visitors get involved with marketing activity such as a special day like this; a team that works cohesively together is so rewarding; supported by clear blue skies and sun kissed beaches around every bend what more could we ask for?.
Since the Star Wars Celebration in Orlando the interest in visiting the Peninsula has gained traction with correspondence from the UK, USA and Canada seeking information to travel here during the months of July through to October 2017. Denise Henry who attended the event was surprised and excited at the prospect that Star Wars fans were booking to come this year even before the release of the Last Jedi Episode VIII securing flights and accommodation shortly after her return. The Inishowen team are currently working on maximising the Star Wars product offering here, networking with other tourism bodies such as the Dingle Peninsula to enhance cross promotion of Star Wars film locations. Inishowen Tourism appreciates the support of the local community, trade members and the Emerald Garrison for attending the May 4th day out. Special thanks to Brendan Diver for his photography that showcases what a truly special place this is….
