Sunny Malin Head was living up to its name during May The Fourth, as Inishowen Tourism staff made their way along the Ahch-To Way to celebrate the Star Wars connection to Inishowen.
Discovering The Ahch-To Way In Inishowen
The Ahch-To way is a driving route, inspired by our planet name in the Star Wars Universe. This awesome journey, located along the Inishowen 100 scenic drive and Wild Atlantic Way coastal route, is packed with awesome viewing points, photo-ops and inspiring Star Wars stories.
To our surprise, at a viewing point overlooking Ineuran Bay, we would encounter, two mean looking members of the Emerald Garrison patrolling the coastline. Thanks so much to Gareth M Scott and David Brown for alerting us to patrolling TIE (Twin Ion Engine) Pilots in Malin Head. Cautiously approaching the two guards we found out that they were a TIE Pilot and TIE Pilot: Reserve stationed in Inishowen to search for what they describe as “Rebel Scum”.
Wanting to explore the region further we joined them on their patrol at other locations in Malin Head including; a rugged shoreline in front of the Curiosity Shop, that overlooks Esky Bay. This was followed by the Yoda Mural at Farrens Bar, where they took time to inspect a suspicious Stormtrooper boot. At Farrens Bar we were informed that “we should drink Guinness as its The Empires drink”. After leaving Farrens they spotted suspicious activity at the Seaview Tavern and were quick to survey the location, see below.
Emerald Garrison: “Bad Guys Doing Good”
Excited about the fact that Inishowen will feature in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, both Pilots were on hand to bring the Empire once again to Malin Head. As members of the Emerald Garrison; Ireland’s lead star wars fan costuming group, the Pilots describe themselves as “Bad Guys Doing Good”. The duo attend charitable events throughout the year, a particularly important event in the Emerald Garrisons calendar is the annual “Invasion” Event.
