Due to air tonight at 9.30pm on the popular TG4 Wildlife program Éire Fhiáin (8th March 2017) is footage captured by Crossing The Line Films of Red Squirrel inhabitants at Lis Na Gra Woods in Muff, Inishowen.
Lis Na Gra Woods Inishowen, Donegal
Lis Na Gra Woods is located close to the village of Muff and neighbouring Derry. Following directional sign posts that are located close to Harkins shop on the main street you will follow a roadway into the heart of a woodland where you will find parking. At Lis Na Gra you will encounter a peaceful landscape with an important resident, the Red Squirrel. Currently this peaceful woodland is recognised as the largest sanctuary for red squirrels, a protected species under the Wildlife Act, in Inishowen, Donegal.
Photographers and Wildlife Groups in the region, like the Wild Inishowen Club, see above, have frequently captured red squirrels running among and up the many species of trees within the woodland. Within Lis Na Gra, a woodland planted in the 1800s, there is a walk approximately 5.5 km in length, that takes you off the beaten path to experience the wonders of nature, views of Lough Foyle and Eskaheen Mountain.
